Slowinski, The Barricade, Oil on canvas, 1978, 78" x156"

During the Cold War, with missiles still on hair trigger alert, Slowinski painted "The Barricade". The image represents a large group of men in nuclear annihilation, their eyeballs and bodies melting at the moment of impact. The earth colors used represent the earth and the melting of the earth. The painting symbolizes humanity and its inevitable destruction as the barricade preventing the use of the weapons. Humanity itself is "The Barricade."

The painting will be on view at Limner through March 1, 2008.
